Morocco: Belgian MP Praises King’s Vision for a Rising Nation

Morocco’s economic roadmap is drawing praise beyond its borders, after a Belgian federal lawmaker of Moroccan descent commended the speech King Mohammed VI delivered Friday at the opening of parliament’s new legislative term. Youssef Handichi, a member of Belgium’s federal parliament, told the official Maghreb Arab Press agency that the address reflects a strong ambition for a rising, modern and dynamic Morocco that creates jobs.

Handichi described the speech, delivered just weeks after September’s legislative elections, as a milestone moment for the kingdom’s trajectory. He focused on the economic direction set out by the monarch, who called for boosting investment, modernizing infrastructure and expanding the private sector’s role in building sustainable employment. In the lawmaker’s reading, these priorities are meant to shape an economy capable of generating real opportunities, particularly for younger generations entering the job market.

The Belgian MP also pointed to the king’s emphasis on youth, training and professional integration as central pillars of the speech. He stressed what he called the need to connect economic momentum with equal opportunity, so that the benefits of growth reach citizens across the country rather than concentrating in a few regions or sectors. For Handichi, that balance reflects an approach Rabat has pursued for years as it pushes forward institutional and economic modernization.

In his Friday address, King Mohammed VI also urged a new generation of national strategies covering water, energy and food security, industrialization, the digital economy and artificial intelligence, while calling for faster execution of large infrastructure projects. He further pressed for deeper advanced regionalization and administrative decentralization, so that Morocco’s regions gain the authority and resources needed to drive their own development agendas.

Favorable reactions of this kind, coming from lawmakers and observers abroad, underscore the attention Morocco’s institutional and economic course continues to attract internationally, at a moment when the kingdom faces a series of significant diplomatic milestones in the weeks ahead.
