Morocco’s Halima Hadir Honored in Rome with Euro-Mediterranean Excellence Award

Morocco notched another win on the international cultural stage this week. Moroccan fashion designer and entrepreneur Halima Hadir, founder and creative director of the Milan-based fashion house Savera Milano, was presented with the 2026 International Euro-Mediterranean Excellence Award in Rome on Wednesday, the fourth edition of a prize that celebrates standout careers bridging the two shores of the Mediterranean.

The ceremony took place at the headquarters of Italy’s Ministry of Culture, drawing diplomats, cultural figures and members of the fashion industry. Giampiero Cannella, an aide to Italy’s Undersecretary of State for Culture, handed Hadir the trophy, praising what he called an exemplary professional journey.

Based in Milan, Hadir built Savera Milano around a distinctive philosophy: pairing Italian craftsmanship with the centuries-old traditions of Moroccan artisanship. Her collections are frequently described as cultural bridges, drawing on traditional Moroccan techniques and reworking them into a contemporary, internationally minded design language.

Morocco’s ambassador to Italy, Youssef Balla, attended the ceremony and personally congratulated the designer. He praised « her talent, creativity and exemplary career path, » adding that she « elegantly embodies the dialogue between two cultures. » The ambassador also noted that the award underscores how talents from diverse backgrounds contribute to the wider Euro-Mediterranean space.

Dondar Kishabli, president of the Mediterranean Journalists Association and founder of the award, said the prize was designed to honor people who turn creative work into a language capable of bringing nations closer together and fostering mutual understanding.

Beyond the personal recognition, the award highlights the growing visibility of Moroccan women entrepreneurs in the global creative industries. It also reinforces the image of a Morocco able to export its intangible heritage through fashion and design, while deepening economic and cultural ties with Italy, a longstanding Mediterranean partner of the Kingdom.

For Halima Hadir, the honor caps years of quiet, consistent work in which Italian elegance and Moroccan craftsmanship speak to one another, collection after collection, far removed from the fleeting pull of passing trends.
